RADIO PATAPOE [97.2FM] is a non-commercial free radio station transmitting 24/7 in and around Amsterdam and on the web. It has been operating for 17 years as an independent station, running purely on volunteerpower.

Monday 9th of february the police tried to seize our staudio and transmitter. After they failed to find anything, they promised to return in force.

Since last year's dutch frequency auctions more and more free radios and radiopirates are forced off air by the government. After the disappearance of RADIO 100 and RADIO VRIJE KEYSER from the airwaves, the end of RADIO PATAPOE, currently the ONLY non-commercial or state-sponsored sation broadcasting in Amsterdam, threatens.

What will remain? A predictable, commercial and boring radioscape without space for different opinions or experiments. FREE RADIO stands for a diversity of sounds and withdraws itself from the struggle between market and government. Because the air belongs to everybody.
